A YOUNG Gloucester woman has handed herself in topolice after an alleged stabbing.
The 18-year-old woman fronted Taree Police Stationthis morning where she was interviewed and charged with wounding with intent tocause grievous bodily harm.
A 20-year-old man was treated for a stab wound tothe stomach after an altercation on the corner of Avon and Hay St early onSaturday morning.
The man was taken to Gloucester Soldiers MemorialHospital and later transferred to the Manning Hospital for surgery to nonlife-threatening injuries.
Late last Friday and early Saturday a vehicle wasobserved driving erratically around the Avon and Philip St intersections.
The vehicle and its occupants stopped outside anaddress in Avon St where a conversation took place with the residents.
During this conversation the vehicle occupants werespoken to about their manner of driving and told to go home.
It is alleged that one of the passengers inside thevehicle punched a woman through the vehicle window before it and the occupantsleft.
A short time later, an 18-year-old woman returnedto Avon St, this time on foot, with to continue arguing with the victim who hadearlier been assaulted.
During the altercation a small group congregated atthe intersection of Avon and Hay streets and further heated words wereexchanged.
At that point, a 20-year-old man walking home andpast the group attempted to defuse the situation by encouraging those presentto leave.
The occupants of the group were known to the man.
The 18-year-old woman took offence to the man’spresence and allegedly punched him several times in the stomach beforeproducing a knife and stabbing him once in the lower right abdomen.
Police allege the woman threw the knife away andleft the scene.
Local police and detectives from Taree attended andare investigating the incident. The knife used in the stabbing has beenrecovered.
