A Magic Millions Clockwise Two-Year-Old Classic trial in Ballarat last yearTASMANIAN trainer Dylan Clark is targeting Ballarat’s $200,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Two-Year-Old Classic in his first mainland venture.
He is running unraced colt Spanish Saga in a clockwise trial in Ballarat tomorrow in a bid to make the Ballarat Cup Day field on Sunday, November 24.
Clark is in his early 20s and has been training less than 12 months.
He had a win with his second starter in March when Aventador scored in a maiden under lights at Launceston.
Spanish Saga, which has trialed in Tasmania, is one of 15 nominations for the last of Ballarat Turf Club’s clockwise trials leading up to the 1000m classic.
BTC chief executive officer Lachlan McKenzie said horses, unless from NSWwhere racing was clockwise,had to trial clockwise satisfactorily at Sportsbet-Ballarat to be eligible for the $200,000 event, which is being run for the second time.
The BTC has had two previous trial days.
McKenzie said he was pleased with the interest being shown in the feature race – the only clockwise race run in Victoria.
The leading stables of Mick Price, Robbie Griffiths, Danny O’Brien, Ciaron Maher Mark Riley and Darren Weir are others lining up runners tomorrow.
Most of the nominations are unraced.
The Mick Price-trained Geromayo does have race experience, having finished fifth in the listed Debutant Stakes at Caulfield on October 12.

MEANWHILE, Lachlan McKenzie is pleased with the progress of plans for Ballarat Cup Day.
He said booking were strong, with 2000 confirmed across corporate marquees and other dining packages.
McKenzie said BTC marquee booking were at a record high.
