Ms James was commended for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the development industry by the Urban Development Institute of Australia NSW.
She received a Women in Development Award for Excellence at a recent state conference dinner.
Ms James started at Blacktown Council in 1976 as a town planner and became a council director in 1990.
Her expertise has guided the council through times of significant change and development.
She has also served on industry advisory groups and government planning panels, including the Local Environmental Plan Review Panel and Infrastructure Contributions Taskforce.
Councillor Len Robinson wrote in his mayoral minute: “I applaud Glennys on her outstanding achievement that is a true reflection of her hard work and commitment, not only to this organisation, but also to Blacktown city and the development industry as a whole.
“Blacktown city and our council have benefited greatly from the expertise and dedication Glennys has provided over the years and I congratulate her on the well-deserved recognition from an industry to which she has contributed so much.”
Labor councillor Tony Bleasdale hailed her as one of the best town planners in Australia and Liberal Jackie Donaldson thanked Ms James for her expertise in explaining complex development matters to councillors.
