Hesket Primary School skippers returned triumphant from the Victorian Skipping Championships last Friday. The event celebrates the year’s performances by The National Heart Foundation’s skipping demonstration teams with a day of competition at the State Netball Centre in Parkville.

Hesket skippers were dominant in all events.

In the junior individual routine competition, eight-year-old Zantha Snell took out first place and Maddison Dutton Johnson came second. The girls then combined to win the junior partner routine while other teammates, Sam Williams and Mariam Habib finished second.

In the Senior competition (10 years and over), nine-year-old Imogen Hoyle-Service performed a fantastic routine to come runner up to 13-year-old Krystelle Rush from Rockbank. Imogen then went on to partner Charrouf Habib and win the senior partner routine competition.

Maddison, Sam, Zantha and Imogen performed flawless, difficult tricks in both single long rope and double dutch. Team members, Holly Boldiston, Cory Parkinson, Mariam and Charrouf Habib were sensational rope turners for this part of the competition.

Teacher and long-time coach of the team, Jan Crebbin, commented that turning the rope was just as important as jumping in it. Jan and fellow staff member, Debra Kent have worked with the team of eight during recesses and sports sessions through-out the year and are extremely proud of the team’s success, especially because of the young age of the team, all 10 or under.

It was a fitting conclusion that Hesket was named overall winner and presented with the Champions trophy. This is the schools 12th Victorian Championship win.
