Griffiths wins Harriers’ weekend run

Cool and windy conditions at the beach on Sunday morning made for good running.

Beau Griffiths was the standout, winning by a minute and a half.

Mike McCarron is getting better with each race and for a masters runner is going fantastic.

First year runner Tyran Kranz keeps plugging away and is getting better each run.

Angie Smyth and Craig Dix had a hard fight for fifth and could not be split at the finish.

Mitchell Brougham was second female to finish, Simone Thiele third.

Eleven-year-old Candice Bridgman shows she has the tenacity of a runner, finishing well over a hard course.

Walkers Deb Thomas and Deb Grimm put in great efforts over a hilly course.

In the 2.2km, new runners Dan and Kate Vyden took the baby for a run and made quick work of the 2.2km.

Young Ashley Brougham who loves running and never misses an opportunity, finished third.

All the young runners are under 11-years-old and enjoyed the challenge of the 2.2k out to the end of the marina and back.

Next weekend the Harriers will hold the King and Queen of the mountain 6k run at the Whyalla Gift, so no run will be held on Sunday morning.

Quite a few Whyalla Harriers will be competing in the race and hope to do well.

The race is an open event and it is not too late to enter.

Download the entry form from the Events Whyalla website and get it into the Events Whyalla office in Essington Lewis Avenue before Friday 4pm.

You can also enter on the day, although a late fee will be imposed.

The weather forecast for Saturday is for mid 20s, so it should be perfect for a good race.

The race is wide open this year with last year’s winners not backing up.

There are plenty of runners in Whyalla men and women who would do well if they would give the Whyalla race a go.

You do not have to go to Adelaide to race, there are lots of good events on in Whyalla if you just give them a go.

There is a first prize of $500 each for the first man and woman and good prizes for the minor places, so please get your entry in.
