Entries for Blacktown Council’s Decorate Your Home Christmas competition are now open. The contest encourages residents to decorate their homes with lights, displays and decorations, for the chance to win a share in $8000 worth of prizes. Residents can enter their own homes or nominate that of a neighbour or friend.

Categories: five ward winners, most environmentally-friendly display, encouragement award, best overall, nominators’ prize and Champion of Champions. Residents who nominate others will go into a prize draw.

The house nominations are due to close on Monday, December 2.

Creative writers

The winners of the inaugural Blacktown City Mayoral Creative Writing Prize have been announced. The initiative aimed to encourage writers of all age groups and attracted 225 entries.

Judges Anne-Marie Kestle and Elizabeth Chase picked eight category winners and a further 18 entries were awarded highly commended.

Schofields resident Alison Woodbury won the adult poetry section and Blacktown’s Nathan Smith won best adult story.

Men’s business

The Poker 4 Prostate fund-raiser will be held on Friday, November 15. This is a men-only party to raise money and awareness of prostate, testicular cancer and men’s health. Tickets cost $35 (including beer, finger food, charity poker, roulette, blackjack, adult entertainment). All money raised will go to the Movember Foundation.
