MINCHINBURY Fruit Market was among the greengrocers honoured by Sydney Markets at the 2013 Greengrocer of the Year Awards gala dinner and award presentation at La Montage in Lilyfield.
The metropolitan finalist was, however, pipped at the post by fourth-time finalist since 2010, Parisi’s Food Hall from Rose Bay, which was named Metropolitan Greengrocer of the Year.
Country Fruit Bathurst was named the winner of the Regional Greengrocer of the Year Award for the sixth consecutive year.
Now in its 12th year, the Greengrocer of the Year Awards recognises retailers for providing outstanding produce knowledge and freshness, excellence in customer service, store appearance, overall merchandising and branding.
This year, 210 small businesses in NSW and ACT were assessed by mystery shoppers against a list of criteria set by Sydney Markets.
“In an industry that is working harder, under difficult trading conditions, these awards serve to acknowledge the vital role independent greengrocers play in feeding Australia,” Sydney Markets chief executive Brad Latham said.
